Statement shirts are all the rave these days. Actually when have they ever not been a thing? They are the perfect the way to say something without having to utter a word. I personally love reading random people’s shirts and wondering about the stories behind the shirts and the people wearing them. They are great ice breakers and conversation starters. Recently I have found myself slowly building a collection of random statement shirts. My current favorites are ones about veganism and culture.
Styling a statement shirt doesn’t have to mean instantly pair it with jeans or frumpy sweats. An eye catching statement shirt shouldn’t be an afterthought. It should be part of the complete look. The statement shirts that I tend to notice are usually styled to stand out.
To style your look, treat your shirt like it’s a blouse and wear it under a blazer or even a suit. For an evening look, wear it with cigarette pants and a statement shoe. Pair it with a skirt and sneakers. During the summer, statement shirts look amazing with short shorts and hat. If all fails, a nice pair of leggings or boyfriend jeans can complete a causal easy look.
For my look I decided to jazz up my statement shirt. To create the skirt, I pulled out some faux leather fabric. The fabric had a bit of stretch to it, so I was able to accomplish the perfect fit. I used Simplicity 8175 pattern and decided not to make a belt in the instructions. The pattern was really easy to create and I was able to complete the project in no time.
I finished my look with:
Immigrant shirt is by OkayAfrica // Fedora from Asos. // Jacket by Gap // Shoes are Steve Madden. Mine are old but you can try these. // Sunglasses are Jimmy Choo // Belt by Halogen
Here are a few examples of how I styled of my favorite shirts from Boredwalkshirts.
