Happy New Year. I stepped away from the blog during the holidays because a chick was overwhelmed with life. But I’m back. I realized it’s almost February and I’m still recovering from the holidays. I’m still over here struggling to get started on some of my goals. Am I the only one?
After the holidays, to get away from everything I took a trip to Montreal for a few days. While trying not to over pack, I threw in this faux fur coat that I made back in November. Yes. November. I know.
It hasn’t really been cold enough in Atlanta to wear the coat but I knew Canada would be the perfect place for it. I was also supposed to submit it for the monthly sew-along over at Pretty Girls Sew. But I didn’t. Can’t say I even know why. I promise I’m trying to do better.
I found the faux fur fabric in a small discount fabric store not too far from my house. While there, I also picked up a few other faux fur options for future projects. The fabric hoarding is obviously still an issue. I chose the pink because it really stood out. It was the definite option for the coat.
I used McCall’s pattern 7257 to create the look. I lengthened the coat by two inches. Because I wanted the fur to look a bit untamed instead of having the super neat look at the bottom and sleeves, I hand stitched the bottom of the lining and the sleeves. A bit tedious and extra but I was all about the finished look. But can I tell y’all how much fur I had all over me, my mannequin, and the floor of my sewing room during the process and days after?
To complete the look, I pulled out the Asos thigh high boots. The same one worn here. Under my coat, I’m simply wearing black leggings and a black shirt. In a cooler climate, the coat can pair with some jeans and a t-shirt. Or even thrown over a fancy dress for the evening to stir up conversations and draw some attention. This is definitely a statement piece that will be a classic closet staple.
